Debt advice businesses are regulated by government agencies to ensure they are correctly trained and uphold customer confidentiality. Unfortunately it almost impossible to monitor or prove an advisers motives when offering cost free debt advice. The issue is, can a regulator ascertain whether or not debt advice was given in the best interests of the customer or if, perhaps, advice given was skewed by profit?

The fact of the matter is companies offering financial advice are out to return profit, this can sometimes raise ethical issues between the consumer and the adviser. This is achieved through by forwarding debtors on to other businesses or by charging arrangement fees from credit companies.
